CLS Photography Holiday Special

Today was the kids' first day of school and I am zonked. So, I'm putting a little shout out for my talented photographer friend, Christine Lee Smith. A Piece of My Mind Each Day. 07-14-10

Here is a piece from yesterday, ran out of time to post it, but it's here! Not sure where it's going or what or who exactly it's supposed to be. I just opened a blank document in Photoshop and started sketching with the wacom tablet. We'll see how it progress...completely unplanned expression this time. Although, it is interesting to me how many of my doodles end up looking a little like my mom. :)

A Piece of My Mind Each Day. 01-12-10

I did do some Geisha Muerta sketches last night...and will continue to do more this week, but those will come later. For today's piece of my mind, more progress on my "Gray Self Portrait."

Taking requests for commissioned paintings...

After spending lots of time (and lots of energy, emotion, tears and joy) with the last commissioned piece, I needed time away from commissions. That was the end of October 2009. I am now ready to accept a new commissioned project, which I will most likely limit to a small number per year, depending on the size and complexity of each painting. So if you have been thinking about having a painting commissioned, please contact me asap, as I am currently available, but once I am snatched up, probably won't be available again for a few months.

Another note, even if you are not ready just yet, but are curious as to what is available and what an estimate would be, feel free to contact me as well.

A Piece of My Mind 01-10-10

Two paintings I'm working on, I've experimented with a bit in Photoshop. The top is of course the painting I've already started. I've become quite enamored with fossil bones lately, and will be using that in my pieces. The second is a self portrait I started a while back after coming back from visiting Tombstone. My influence of Frida Kahlo and my love of the old west are quite visible in the direction I'm going in this one.

Just progress today, folks. But what a difference a day makes! Line work is finished and got my base for paint ready. Lots of Photoshop painting fun to ensue. This is going to be for an EBSQart online show with the theme: gray.

Here's some progress on a digital self portrait I'm working on. It's been a while since I've done a self portrait (I think maybe even a year since I've drawn myself!) and it's about time. I remember in high school and college constantly drawing myself. I miss being my own muse some of the time. :)

New Painting Progress

Started a new painting during the holiday season, but because of the holidays, didn't get to do as much work as I had planned. I will post daily progress. Here is what I have so far...

I am really happy with how it's turning out! The colors are coming together, and it's building up the same look I had in mind when I created the drawing. More progress later...

Inspiration

I want to start bringing my sketchbook everywhere I go again and actually drawing something from everywhere I am---like I used to. Boredom was my glory time, and it still should be. I just randomly looked up good places to draw and I got this blog, artist Nick Abadzis, which was exactly what I needed to both see and read. Enjoy!

Working on 2 new pieces

Okay, okay, so I haven't quite updated the website as much as I need to, but since I had written last, I did add a lot of newer work, especially Graphic Design, to my page. Carlos and I need to have a little sit down/pow wow/meeting over coffee and decide what to do next and what all to add and to delete. There is soooo much new stuff that it will be a complete overhaul this time around.

In other news, I have a full time job for now, and a couple of freelance gigs and have also recently started tutoring for the No Child Left Behind program, which is very time consuming and draining, but also very fulfilling for me. I've started to write my children's book (that I've put off for 2 years now) and am really starting to flood with ideas. At work, I take little creative breaks in between, because the design work I am hired to do is, well, less than creative. So here are some works in progress. These kinds of pieces are ones that I am forcing myself to do-as exercises, so that my brain doesn't stress over getting them done, but instead switches to making sure I learn from them.

First is a portrait of actor Simon Pegg as Sgt. Nicholas Angel from the movie "Hot Fuzz." If you have not seen this movie, I HIGHLY recommend it!


Second is one that needs even more work of Pinup Rockabilly model Jasper James. She is a doll!
