Studio 6 Grand Opening Show

The Grand Opening show went great at Studio 6! Most of the work is still up. If you are interested, it is in Downtown Ventura on Main St. in Zander Mall. Above is one of my shrines.

Above is work by Roberto Zendejas. He was such a nice person and extremely positive and inspirational. Hope to see what he does next! More of my work below...

Above and below were other artists' work...

Yes those are Pacman necklaces! Those were probably CJ's favorite. He started building them with his legos when he got home.

My faithful "Blue Lady" painting...

And my shrines! The one at the end is already sold!
My big "Calavera Rosa Sirena" shrine next to my magnets...

If you are able to make it out, let me know what you think!

Studio 6 Open today!

My artwork will be up and for sale at Studio 6 on Main Street in Ventura, CA. If you are in the area, stop by and show your support! There are going to be other great artists and crafters shown at this gallery, all with very different styles than what is normall seen in the 805. I will be stopping by in the later afternoon!

Will post pics from the gallery later today.

A Piece of My Mind 06.30.2010: More work on the candles...

I have glitter everywhere. I even got it on my cat, Mochi. I'm sure she hates me right now. Anyway, here are more pics of progress on my candles.

Here's a larger shrine...not completely sure yet what I'm going to do with it, but most likely it will involve a skeleton...

La Llorona Doll

She pretty much looks how I feel today. bleh

I created this doll for Mezco's Living Dead Doll Show in New York a few years back. It was a lot of fun. It sold, too! Maybe I should make more dolls. What do you think of her?

My apologies...

So, I just looked at my last post and realized it was in July! Wow! Time has just been passing us by! Here is my apology post to say sorry for keeping you waiting for more Beenznrice goodness. I will be posting lots more work soon, as I've been fairly busy with personal work as well as lots of freelance and of course the bread and butter fulltime job. But I will no longer neglect you my faithful blog followers!

I've also rejoined EBSQart.com again, and I hope to enter some upcoming shows, which I will link here of course! Here's a link to the show I did on EBSQart.com way back when:

Art Tour Stop 3: Leo Carillo and Explosions in the Sky

So some work from Leo Carillo will be coming soon, they are quick oil sketches, so I have to wait until they are dry enough to scan (don't want to ruin my scanner). Here are a couple of shots from Explosions in the Sky. Very low quality shots from my phone, but there was something about the abstract effect of the lighting along with the music that was very cool to me. So I thought I'd share.

The Little Chimp Society

LCSV4 The Illustration News Portal

What a great site for illustrators and people interested in illustration! There are interviews, great tips for illustrators from emerging to established, a huge links section for your perusal, etc. etc. etc. It did not take me long to sign up for both the newsletter and to be a member of the site. Being a member allows you to both comment on articles, as well as submit news. This should help us stay current with other illustrators and illustration dates, shows, events and other sites. Let us know if you joined, too!

Art 4 Heart

So I opened up my email this morning, inspired and just itching to start my new year with creating new art. The email was from someone I had never met, but had found my work through the local Art Association here in Camarillo, of which I am a member. The even invited me to participate in an art show through St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital. That was the hospital in which I gave birth to my son, and I have to say, they really took care of me there. I couldn't have had a better "birth" experience.

Anyway, back to the event. It is to promote awareness for the prevention of heart disease in women. All of the art will be "heart" related. What a wonderful way to start the new year, and my new body of work! I am going to do a version of a sacred heart, and it will be up for auction in February--of course the proceeds will go to benefit the hospital and the program.

If anybody is interested, let me know, I'll give you all the details. I'll be posting the painting as I finish it.
